Associate Project Engineer – Primary Engineering at Hitachi Energy
Job Description
Hitachi Energy is looking for an Associate Project Engineer – Primary Engineering to join their team in Chennai. You will be responsible for the primary engineering of Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS) for transmission and sub-transmission systems (66kV and above), supporting turnkey substation projects for global customers.
Responsibilities
- Support Sales & Tendering engineers by developing tender-specific engineering documents and drawings.
- Perform Primary Engineering for Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS) of transmission and sub-transmission systems (66kV+).
- Deliver key documentation including Gas SLD, GIS layouts, cable tray layouts, earthing layouts, cabling overviews, and assembly overviews.
- Perform technical calculations (system resistance, thermal loss, gas volume, earthing mat, cable calculations) and Bill of Material (BOM) calculations.
- Prepare cost estimations and perform self/peer reviews of documents.
- Ensure compliance with internal/external regulations and maintain project documentation according to quality processes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EEE) or Mechanical Engineering.
- 1–5 years of experience in tendering or design of LV, MV, HV, or EHV products.
Skills Required
- Good knowledge of substations and GIS technology.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Creo or equivalent.
- Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
- Design to Value (DtV) expertise and ability to prepare optimized solutions.
- Ability to work independently and with cross-functional teams (Secondary Engineering, Project Management, etc.).
- Excellent English communication skills.
