Tamil Nadu to Reform Polytechnic Curriculum for Improved Employability and Entrepreneurship Outcomes in 2023-24

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government’s move to reform the Polytechnic curriculum is a positive step towards producing highly skilled and competent individuals who can bridge the gap between industry and academia. The new syllabus, which will be introduced in the coming academic year, has been designed to meet the changing requirements of the industry and nurture talent for deep-tech and knowledge-based industries.

According to a senior official from the Higher Education Department, the inputs from various industries and the Tamil Nadu guidance bureau have been taken into account to redesign and reform the Polytechnic curriculum. Polytechnic colleges have been a significant contributor to Tamil Nadu’s talent pool by producing skilled technicians who support mass industrialisation. The courses will be offered in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation, and more than 3,000 students will be trained. The short-term skill training certificates will be offered to the students in the courses of Mechanical Engineering, CNC Operator Machining Technician Level 3, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Assembly Operator, and Electronics and Communication Engineering.

The official further added that the reformation is vital to nurture the next generation of highly competent individuals who can harness the power of technology, innovation and enterprise to lead change and deliver social and economic impact. With the implementation of the new curriculum, the polytechnic students will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their careers and contribute to the state’s economy.
