St. Joseph Engineering College’s Annual Athletic Meet: Go for Gold in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 15: St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), located in the scenic city of Mangaluru, kicked off its annual athletic meet on March 15, with a theme of ‘Go for Gold-2023’. The college grounds were bustling with excitement as students, faculty, and guests gathered to witness the event, which was organized by the department of physical education wellness and sports group. The meet was inaugurated by the chief guest, Sylvina Cecil Pais, a renowned international athlete and Dasara awardee, who hoisted the flag to mark the beginning of the competition.

The atmosphere was electric as students from St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) in Mangaluru presented a colourful march-past to kick off their annual athletic meet on March 15. Dignitaries, including the college’s director, Fr Wilfred Prakash D’Souza, dean student welfare Dr Ramananda H S, assistant director Fr Allwyn D’Souza, and principal Dr Rio D’Souza, looked on as the students marched proudly, showcasing their team spirit and enthusiasm for the upcoming competitions. After the march-past, the flag was hoisted by the dignitaries in a solemn ceremony, signifying the beginning of the much-anticipated event.

In her address to the gathered students and faculty members, Sylvina Cecil Pais emphasized the importance of sports in building mental strength and resilience. “Sports help you to grow and challenge yourself,” she said, inspiring the young athletes to stay focused on their goals and avoid the distractions of social media negativity. The chief guest’s words were met with rapt attention from the students, who eagerly awaited the start of the competitions.

As the event drew to a close, Chairperson of the wellness and sports group, Nisha Roche, extended a warm welcome to all attendees and expressed her gratitude to the chief guest for gracing the occasion. Sports advisor Poornesh proposed a vote of thanks, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of all those who had contributed to the success of the athletic meet. The event was compered by Rachana Crasta and Roopesh, who kept the audience engaged with their witty banter and commentary throughout the proceedings. With the athletic meet officially declared open, the students of SJEC prepared to take on their rivals with all the passion and spirit they could muster.
