Job Description

Qualification: B.E. / B.Tech / M.E. / M.Tech in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or related disciplines

Cisco is hiring Software Engineer interns to join its India Engineering teams in Bangalore. As part of this summer internship, you will develop software consistent with Cisco’s Design Thinking Principles, with a focus on simplification, secure coding practices, and user privacy. You will build applications that make technology accessible to people on a variety of devices — imagining, designing, and creating solutions to transform how people work, live, learn, and play.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software programs for enhancements and new products.
  • Develop software and tools in support of design, infrastructure, and technology platforms, including operating systems, compilers, routers, networks, utilities, databases, and Internet-related tools.
  • Communicate status and issues to the team regularly.
  • Share experience and knowledge to support the team.
  • Perform routine assignments requiring basic knowledge and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts.
  • Collaborate effectively with own team on small projects and features, primarily focused on coding and testing.
  • Develop an understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile engineering practices (requirements analysis, design, coding, unit testing, acceptance testing).
  • Analyze user requirements and work with others to understand impact on technical design features.
  • Write correct code with assistance; support test code refining and rewriting as part of testing and debugging.
  • Apply secure coding principles and follow secure coding guidelines.
  • Support more senior team members in troubleshooting and debugging issues.

Skills & Requirements

Software Engineer – Networking Protocols

  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals and software engineering with an aptitude for learning new technologies.
  • Fundamentals of TCP/IP networking, concepts of routing and switching.
  • Basics of routers, switches, network debugging tools and techniques (hands-on experience is a plus).
  • Fundamentals of security technologies like Firewall, IPS/IDS, VPN, IPsec, TLS etc.
  • Strong knowledge of programming and scripting languages like Python; strong skills inclined towards optimization and performance.
  • Familiar with more than one development environment.
  • Strong testing inclination with creative problem-solving and excellent troubleshooting/debugging skills.

Software Engineer – Application Software

  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals and software engineering.
  • Fundamentals of TCP/IP networking, concepts of routing and switching.
  • Strong knowledge of Python and other programming/scripting languages.
  • Solid fundamentals of object-oriented design and programming.
  • Ability to think towards scaling applications to the cloud.
  • Hands-on exposure to open source and mobile application development is a plus.
  • Interest in User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) design and development.
  • Creative problem-solving and excellent troubleshooting/debugging skills.

Software Engineer – Embedded and Systems Development

  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals and software engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of Python; exposure to kernel programming, user space, and system space.
  • Very strong fundamentals of operating systems; exposure to device drivers and BSPs is a plus.
  • Fundamentals of system-level debugging techniques and tools.
  • Strong programming skills with emphasis on system programming.
  • Creative problem-solving and excellent troubleshooting/debugging skills.
