Gita Chengappa’s National Recognition for Pioneering Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development

At the recent annual conference of the Indian Science Parks and Business Incubator Association (ISBA) in Mumbai, Gita Chengappa Chodumada, General Manager of TREC-STEP, was honored for her outstanding contributions spanning more than two decades in the realm of Innovation and Entrepreneurship development.

Gita’s journey began as an electrical engineer from UVCE, Bangalore, and she furthered her qualifications with an MBA. In 1999, she embarked on her career at the Tiruchirappalli Regional Engineering College – Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park (TREC-STEP), a pioneering organization dedicated to fostering innovative technology-based startups, strategically situated within the NIT, Trichy campus.

Gita’s expertise in Technology Entrepreneurship promotion was refined through training at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. She has also extensively studied incubation ecosystems worldwide, including Europe, the USA, China, and other global regions.

Since 2018, Gita has been at the helm of operations at the Chennai Innovation and Technology Incubation Centre, an initiative stemming from TREC-STEP, located in Chennai. Her extensive experience in incubation management has nurtured numerous successful tech entrepreneurs and effectively overseen numerous high-impact projects in the realm of Innovation and Knowledge-based Venture promotion. These projects often involved collaboration with prominent entities like the Department of Science and Technology, the Government of India, the Atal Innovation Mission of NITI Aayog, and well-known international organizations such as the World Bank, UNDP, UNIDO, and the European Union.

In addition to her numerous roles and achievements, Gita serves as a dedicated member of the National Advisory and Monitoring Committees of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, contributing her expertise to Technology Entrepreneurship programs.

Gita (formerly known as Thamane Codanda) is married to Chodumada Chengappa, the former CMD of BHPV Ltd., and a prominent member of the top management team at BHEL. They reside in Chennai and are parents to a son, Belliappa, who is a technology professional currently based in the USA.
