“Fraudulent Education Consultant Racket Busted in Balasore: Students Scammed of Rs 3.5 Crore

In a shocking case of fraud, two individuals have been apprehended by the authorities in Balasore district of Odisha, India, for their alleged involvement in a scam that swindled aspiring students of an astounding Rs 3.5 crore. The accused, who posed as education consultants, reportedly lured innocent students and their families with the promise of securing admissions into prestigious medical and engineering colleges. The accused would create a façade of legitimacy by using fake documents, forged signatures, and counterfeit marksheets to deceive the victims.

Further investigations also revealed that the accused had employed various fraudulent techniques, such as impersonation, manipulation of merit lists, and falsification of documents, to carry out their scam. They had been operating for a considerable period of time, amassing a staggering amount of Rs 3.5 crore through their fraudulent activities.

The masterminds behind the fraudulent racket have been identified as Sunil Samantray and Sumit Biswal, hailing from Jajpur district in Odisha, India. The duo was apprehended by the cyber police during the investigation of a complaint filed by an individual who was duped of Rs 21 lakh in the Khantapada area of Balasore.

Providing further details, Balasore Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagarika Nath revealed that the cyber police station played a crucial role in busting the racket. Upon thorough investigation, it was uncovered that Sunil Samantray and Sumit Biswal had set up a firm named Sai Academy Consultancy in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, as a front for their fraudulent activities.

The accused had preyed on innocent students and their parents by making false promises of securing seats in reputed medical and engineering colleges. They had allegedly devised an elaborate scheme to cheat aspiring students and their families, leading to the embezzlement of a significant amount of money. The revelation of their involvement in the racket has sent shockwaves through the community, underscoring the importance of vigilant scrutiny while dealing with educational consultants and institutions.
