Exploring the Exciting World of Engineering and Computing: A Day of Fun and Learning for All Ages at USC College’s Open House

The USC College of Computer and Engineering was buzzing with excitement as the open house began. Parents and students alike had been looking forward to the event for months, eager to explore the science behind engineering and computing. As they arrived, they were greeted by friendly volunteers who showed them around and helped them get started on their engineering journey. The atmosphere was electric as the kids eagerly explored the different exhibits and tried out various hands-on activities.

The goal of the event was to inspire kids to pursue a career in engineering by showing them that it’s an accessible and rewarding field for anyone who enjoys problem-solving, creativity, and tinkering. Krystal DuBose, a representative from the college, emphasized the importance of these skills and how they can lead to a fulfilling career in engineering. She spoke about the various types of engineering, from civil and mechanical to electrical and computer engineering, and how each one can be applied to solve real-world problems.

The USC College of Computer and Engineering had put together over 40 interactive exhibits and activities for the students to engage with. Each exhibit was designed to showcase a different aspect of engineering and computing, from building structures and designing robots to coding video games and exploring virtual reality simulations. The exhibits were staffed by engineers, professors, and students from the college who shared their knowledge and enthusiasm for the field. The students were able to interact with them, ask questions, and learn about the latest advances in technology.

One of the highlights of the day was the series of interactive workshops where students got to work with real engineers and learn about the latest advances in computer science and technology. The workshops covered topics like cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and data science, and were designed to be engaging and interactive. In the cybersecurity workshop, for example, students learned about the different types of cyber threats and how to protect themselves from them. In the data science workshop, they learned how to analyze data and make predictions using machine learning algorithms. These workshops provided the students with a unique opportunity to learn from experts in the field and get hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies.
