The 53rd convocation of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) illuminated the campus on a momentous Thursday, marking a significant milestone in the academic journey of its graduates. The distinguished occasion was graced by the esteemed presence of Punjab Governor and UT Administrator, Banwarilal Purohit, who assumed the role of the chief guest, infusing the event with an air of grandeur and inspiration.
In a ceremony that echoed with academic excellence, a total of 774 degrees were conferred upon the deserving students. Among them, 497 students were honoured with their degrees in person, while 277 students received their accolades in absentia, a testament to their dedication and hard work.
Banwarilal Purohit, in his captivating convocation address, shed light on the illustrious history of PEC, boasting a legacy that spans over a century. He proudly extolled the achievements of Indians on the global stage, emphasizing that they leave an indelible mark wherever they venture. Purohit highlighted the remarkable presence of Indian talent within NASA, noting that a substantial portion of its scientists are of Asian descent, including a significant number of accomplished Indians.
As the graduates embarked on a journey teeming with boundless opportunities and possibilities, Purohit imparted invaluable wisdom, emphasizing that intelligence stands as a formidable complement to formal education. Drawing inspiration from the life of Mahatma Gandhi, he encouraged the students to embrace his philosophy of simple living and high thinking, as a guiding principle for their future endeavours.
The grand occasion saw Purohit bestowing prestigious gold medals upon the outstanding students, recognizing their exceptional contributions to the academic community. In a moment of immense honour, Dr Sreedhara Panicker Somanath, the distinguished chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), was conferred with the esteemed Honoris Causa, a symbol of his remarkable achievements and contributions to the field of space exploration.
Addressing the assembly, PEC’s director, Baldev Setia, eloquently outlined the institution’s vision, proudly recounting its numerous achievements and contributions to the world of engineering and technology.
The convocation ceremony culminated with the awarding of 640 BTech degrees to students across various branches of engineering, as well as the conferral of 96 MTech degrees to the postgraduate scholars and 38 PhD degrees, representing a collective triumph of knowledge, dedication, and ambition.
