Telangana: Engineering Colleges Welcome Working Professionals for Enrollment

an exciting development, a consortium of 12 engineering colleges in the State is set to revolutionize higher education for working professionals with engineering diplomas. The upcoming academic year 2023-24 will mark the launch of degree-level engineering programs that empower individuals to pursue a BE/BTech while maintaining their current jobs.

These forward-thinking institutions, including the prestigious Osmania University College of Engineering (OUCE), have received essential approvals from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), signalling a major leap in engineering education accessibility.

As part of this visionary initiative, aspiring professionals can specialize in various domains, such as Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. With each program offering a limited 30 seats, it is imperative that at least 10 students enroll to ensure its viability.

The hallmark of this program is its flexibility, as working professionals with engineering diplomas will seamlessly join the second-year engineering curriculum. Classes will be thoughtfully scheduled for evenings or weekends, eliminating the need to disrupt one’s professional responsibilities, and making education more accessible than ever.

Admissions into these coveted programs will be based on a competitive entrance test, ensuring that only those who meet the prerequisites are granted the opportunity. Prospective candidates are required to have a minimum of one year of service experience in either the government or private sectors, demonstrating their dedication to their chosen field.

While the fee structure has yet to be finalized by the colleges, there is an anticipation that it may be double the cost of a regular engineering course. For instance, OUCE, a renowned institution, currently charges an annual fee of Rs 50,000 for its standard courses. Prospective students embarking on this educational journey while working can expect to invest approximately Rs 1 lakh per annum, a modest sum considering the unique opportunity and convenience this initiative presents.

In summary, the introduction of these degree-level engineering programs heralds a new era in higher education, providing working professionals with the means to pursue their dreams without sacrificing their careers. This innovative approach not only opens doors to a broader range of candidates but also brings the world of engineering closer to those who aspire to make their mark in this dynamic field.
