IIT Delhi researchers develop affordable PPE coverall for COVID-19 doctors.
IIT Delhi’s Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering is developing a textile material that is highly-functional for the doctors who are treating the Corona Virus patients.
The Department has now started manufacturing PPE (Personal Protective Equipments) that consists of integrated bodysuits and shield covers. This is being produced to protect the doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff who are constantly risking their lives to fight and save people infected with the deadly virus.
An advanced version of the PPE has been developed by SM Ishtiaque, professor emeritus, Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering along with a student, Biswa Ranjan Das, which meets the guidelines that were specified by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Ishtiaque stated, “ The advanced version of the PPE coverall has improved breathability and a softer feel to support extended wearable duration”
The advanced PPE coverall is lightweight at just 300 gm compared to the ones available in the market which weighs around 400-500 gm. Moreover, the PPE is compacted with polyester woven fabric which plays an important role to make the coverall lightweight.
