Students from government schools visit institutions to learn about opportunities for further education and employment

Kanniyakumari: Kanniyakumari Collector P.N. Sridhar organised special tours for these youngsters to a few arts, science, and engineering institutions on Friday in an innovative attempt to pique their interest in pursuing further education in universities.

Mr. Sridhar organised the travels since many Plus Two students from government upper secondary schools do not pursue further education for a variety of social and economic reasons. After an examination of the socioeconomic situations of students from government upper secondary schools, ten students from each school were chosen for the trip.

Today, 590 students are visiting 17 government and private colleges, including Aasaaripallam Government Medical College, Government Ayurveda and Siddha Medical College, Government Engineering College, Konam, Scott Christian College, Holy Cross College, Women’s Christian College, Vivekananda College, Sri Ayyappa College, Hindu College, Government Polytechnic, Konam, Sri Devikumari Women’s College, and Arts and Science College, Lakshmipuram. We feel that this tour will inform students about the many higher education options accessible to them. “They were also informed about the scholarships that were available to them,” Mr. Sridhar added.

After seeing the institutions’ departments, libraries, laboratories, and playgrounds, the students were given a detailed explanation of the importance of each group and the career or further education prospects open to them following graduation.

“This visit will inspire kids and, through them, their peers to pursue further education in a field of their choosing,” Mr. Sridhar added. Pugazhenthi, the Chief Educational Officer, was present.
