Old Mys region gets new university, textile park

Mysuru: A new university and textile park for Chikkamagaluru, sports science centre for Mandya, an ethanol production unit at Mysuru factory in Mandya and Rs 100 crore special grant for the development of Kodagu roads are some of the major announcements by chief minister Basavaraja Bommai in the state budget. The sops offered for these areas are focused at development of the Old Mysuru region and Malnad.

Development works
In his budget address, CM Basavaraja Bommai remembered the developmental activities in these areas, including Shivamogga, and Hassan airport construction, which are at final stages, and the new railway lines.
One of the significant announcements in the budget which is likely to benefit the tourist industry is boat service in Shivamogga-Kogaru-Shiglu on private public partnership concept utilising the Sharavathi backwater.

Likewise, a special package of Rs 100 crore to Kodagu district for the construction of the important roadways would also offer impetus to the tourist industry.

He declared upgradation of Government Engineering College, Hassan, as Karnataka Institute of Technology (KIT) on the lines of IITs in the next five years.
