New UG Degree in IIT Bombay

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has launched a new BTech degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR). The department was inaugurated on April 24th, 2024. The course has already attracted top candidates. The opening rank for the general category was 1,042, and the closing rank was 1,726.

The base of the course

B.Tech. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research at IIT Bombay aims to train students in quantitative, analytical, and computational approaches to model and analyze a range of decision problems in integrated systems of people, information, technology, material, energy, environment, and/or financial resources. The program broadly focuses on designing, analyzing, improving, and controlling industrial and service systems to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness in a sustained and resilient manner.

Why you should opt for it?

The goal of IEOR is the design of efficient operating policies for systems and the optimal allocation of resources. The design of relevant decision-making algorithms for operational excellence is increasingly seen as a realistic goal. As a result, competitive and forward-looking firms from both the public and private sectors are seeking this. Moreover, industries in both the product and service sectors, as well as technology innovation centers, research labs, and academia, are in need of quality manpower. In particular, they require individuals trained not only in modeling, analytical, and computational skills but also in scalable and transferable skill sets. Consequently, these skills can be applied effectively across a range of business and industry settings.

A graduate of IEOR can contribute to various sectors, like manufacturing, logistics & transportation, business analytics, e-commerce/ e-tailers, online marketplaces, production, agriculture, financial services, healthcare, security, information & telecommunication, and other services.

The combination of IE and OR can play a key role in various industry sectors. These include manufacturing, e-commerce, logistics, supply chains, technology, automotive, airlines, retail, and financial services. Job roles include data analyst, business or supply chain analyst, financial or risk analyst, AI engineer, consultant, and operations manager. Additionally, roles like industrial engineer and operations researcher are also possible.

Admission Procedure IIT Bombay

Students will gain admission to the B.Tech IEOR program through JEE Advanced. Student intake is approximately 35 students per batch. For more details visit www.ieor.iitb.ac.in
