Narayan Prusty, a gifted artist from Mendhakhai area in Udala NAC of Mayurbhanj district, is a true inspiration to those who believe that education and art cannot go hand in hand. Despite holding an M.Tech degree, Narayan has a deep passion for art and has been honing his skills for many years.
Narayan’s artworks are diverse and include landscapes, Gods, Goddesses, abstracts, and much more. Visitors to his studio are often taken aback by the level of skill and dedication he puts into his work. What’s even more impressive is that Narayan has managed to pursue his passion for art while working as a lecturer at a private engineering college for eight years.
After resigning from his job to take care of his elderly parents, Narayan found himself with more time to dedicate to his art. As a child, he had always been drawn to art, but his studies had limited his opportunities to pursue it. Despite this, he participated in various art competitions organized by organizations such as the Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi.
Narayan’s passion for Lord Jagannath is evident in his work, and he aims to generate a sense of devotion towards the deity through his art. As a child, he spent hours drawing the Lord, making tiaras (Tahia) and ornaments used during Suna Besha. Now, he even makes idols of Lord Jagannath and his siblings. Narayan’s family members are incredibly supportive of his art. His wife, Tapaswini Patra, acknowledges his dedication towards art, often working late into the night. Narayan’s neighbor, Nirupama Rana, believes that pursuing higher education does not limit one’s ability to explore their artistic talents.
In conclusion, Narayan Prusty’s story is a testament to the fact that one can pursue their passion for art regardless of their academic background. He is an inspiration to many aspiring artists who may be hesitant to pursue their dreams. His dedication and hard work towards his art have made him a true gem in his community.
