The state government has approved the establishment of a new government engineering college in Kolhapur, according to recent news. The Minister of Higher and Technical Education, Chandrakant Patil, confirmed the news and stated that the proposal had been submitted to the government by the Department of Higher and Technical Education. The college is expected to cost around 221.48 crore, and the state government has granted approval for this budget. The college will have a capacity of 300 students, starting from the upcoming academic year of 2023-24.
The process of setting up the college will involve several technical aspects, which are currently being worked on. The infrastructure for the college will be built within the premises of the existing government technical institute in Kolhapur. This will involve the construction of lecture halls, laboratories, administrative buildings, and student accommodation.

“Tappe-Tappy” has been granted permission to fill a total of 115 teaching positions, including 65 academic and 50 non-academic staff, to start a Government Engineering College in Kolhapur district. Speaking about this, Chandrakant Patil said, “There has been a significant expansion of industries in the fields of automobiles, automation, telecommunications, energy production, etc. in the Kolhapur district. With the participation of industries such as sugar mills, textile mills, foundries, machine shops, etc. in this industrial expansion, there is a need for a government engineering college in the district.”
