The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has recommended the name of Kanwardeep Kaur, an accomplished IPS officer of the 2013 batch, for the prestigious post of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Chandigarh. The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet has given its approval for her appointment, and a letter in this regard was issued on Saturday.
The post of SSP (UT) had been lying vacant for some time following the untimely repatriation of Kuldeep Singh Chahal, a 2009-batch IPS officer, who was allegedly removed from his position over charges of misconduct, just ten months before the completion of his three-year tenure. He was subsequently sent back to his parent cadre of Punjab on December 12, 2022.
In this context, the appointment of Kanwardeep Kaur as the new SSP of Chandigarh assumes even greater significance. Her vast experience and leadership skills will be invaluable in filling the void left by her predecessor and restoring public confidence in the police force. Kanwardeep Kaur’s appointment marks a new chapter in the history of law enforcement in Chandigarh and serves as a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting gender equality and meritocracy in the civil services.
