Inter-college Competition on Prototype Design for Mankind: Showcasing Innovative Solutions by Engineering Students in Kolkata

Instrumentation Engineering (AEIE) at the Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata (HITK) hosted an Inter-college Competition on Prototype Design for Mankind on 25 April. The event, held at The Heritage campus, brought together students from various colleges to showcase their innovative designs and solutions. The inaugural session of the competition featured esteemed guests, including Mr. Nirjhar Chakravorti, General Manager of Johnson Controls, who served as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Tapas Chakravarty, Principal Scientist at TCS Research in Kolkata, who was the Guest of Honour. Mr. Chakravorti shared his insights on the importance of innovation in today’s world, while Dr. Chakravarty highlighted the role of technology in driving progress and development. Their valuable perspectives inspired and motivated the participating students to push their boundaries and think outside the box.

The Department of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (AEIE) at the Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata (HITK) organized an Inter-college Competition on Prototype Design for Mankind on 25 April. The event witnessed an impressive inaugural session which was addressed by Mr. P.K. Agarwal, CEO of Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata, and Prof. Basab Chaudhuri, Principal of Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. Their valuable insights and encouragement set the tone for the competition and motivated the participating students to showcase their innovative designs.

The competition saw enthusiastic participation from various engineering colleges across the city, including Techno Main, Future Institute of Engineering and Management, University of Calcutta, The Neotia University, Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology, Asansol Engineering College, RCC Institute of Information Technology, and many more. The Institute received nearly 65 project submissions, out of which 45 projects were selected for display. The diverse range of projects exhibited at the event showcased the students’ creative and innovative solutions to real-world problems. The competition provided a platform for young minds to showcase their talent and potential and to learn from one another’s ideas and experiences.

The Inter-college Competition on Prototype Design for Mankind, hosted by the Department of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (AEIE) at the Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata (HITK), witnessed a diverse range of innovative projects exhibited by engineering students from various colleges across the city. The projects included Smart Glass, Rain Detecting System, Jacket for the Military, Smart Home Automation System, Cash for Bottles, Smart Waste Management System, Smart Washing Machine, Third Eye for blind people, Fire Detecting System, Diabetic Foot Ulceration Detection, and many more.

These projects demonstrated the creativity, passion, and technical expertise of the students in addressing real-world challenges. The Smart Glass project aimed to enhance the user experience of window glass by providing privacy control, weather information, and energy-saving features. The Rain Detecting System aimed to provide early warning to drivers about the onset of rain to prevent road accidents. The Jacket for the Military project aimed to provide advanced safety features to military personnel during combat operations.

The innovative projects exhibited at the competition showcased the potential of young minds to contribute to the development of society through their technical skills and innovative ideas. The competition provided a platform for these students to showcase their projects and learn from one another’s ideas and experiences. Overall, the event was a great success, inspiring and motivating the students to continue to innovate and contribute to society.

The Inter-college Competition on Prototype Design for Mankind hosted by the Department of Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering (AEIE) at the Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata (HITK) culminated in a concluding ceremony that was marked by an enlightening talk by Dr. Subhrangshu Sanyal, CEO of IIM Calcutta Innovation Park. Dr. Sanyal’s talk emphasized the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and social progress. His insights were well received by the audience, which comprised students, faculty, and industry experts.

Following Dr. Sanyal’s talk, the Award ceremony recognized the outstanding projects exhibited at the competition. The first prize was awarded to Heritage Institute of Technology for their project on Smart Washing Machine. The second prize was secured by Bengal Institute of Technology for their project on Sign language recognition (progressive web app) for specially-abled people. The third prize went to RCC Institute of Information Technology for their project on Diabetic foot ulceration detection using FSR.

In addition to the top three positions, five consolation prizes were also awarded. Asansol Engineering College received a consolation prize for their project on Aadhar based voting system, while Future Institute of Engineering and Management received one for their Drone Management system. Heritage Institute of Technology was also recognized with two consolation prizes, one for their project on IoT-based clean smart grid system and the other for their project on Finstrack.

The competition provided an excellent opportunity for the students to showcase their innovative and creative solutions to real-world problems, and the awards ceremony served as a fitting tribute to their hard work, dedication, and technical expertise.

We have provided a platform for the young techies who have done some brilliant works which help mankind and improve the lifestyle of the people. Such affordable solutions to various problems faced by people show our Country is rich in talent and can be a hub of innovation in the future. Already India is now a part of G20 and such a phenomenal achievement of our Country is cherished by our Institute as well while spreading knowledge to our students,” said Prof. Madhurima Chattopadhyay, Head of the Department, Department of AEIE, Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata.
