With the recent push by most countries to move away from over-dependence on global supply chains in semiconductor chipset manufacturing, India joins the world in this initiative. And the encouragement for new startups in India comes from nowhere else but its very own government. Here is a list of some Indian Semiconductor Companies.
CDIL
Continental Device India Pvt. Ltd. (CDIL) was the first of its kind when it introduced silicon semiconductor technology for the first time on its establishment in 1964. This company headquartered in New Delhi, tests and packages transistors, diodes, rectifiers, and other semiconductor technologies. The Mohali, Punjab, test and packaging plant has a capacity of 600 million units per year.
Tata Group
It is a conglomerate group located in Mumbai. It has announced to have a semiconductor fabrication plant constructed in Gujarat in the year 2024. Advisory services on semiconductor subjects like embedded system engineering and field-programmable gate array solutions are among the disciplines that Tata Elxsi, which is the company’s technology and design arm, provides.
Saankhya Labs
Saankhya Labs is known to be the first Indian fabless semiconductor company which was founded in the year 2006. They also claim to have developed the world’s first software-defined radios (SDR) chipsets before. Bangalore is the headquarters of this company employing a workforce of more than 200 professionals.
Wipro
Wipro has over three decades of aesthetics in semiconductor design. This Bangalore-based firm offers engineering solutions to 8 out to the top 10 semiconductor companies, including a long-standing partnership with Broadcom. Wipro delivers an extensive portfolio of more than 250 developed ASICs and SoCs with a slew of 35 registered patents.

It has developed semiconductors for miscellaneous industries such as automotive, Internet of Things (IoT), medical electronics, networking, and wireless technologies. There are office locations in Bangalore, Kolkata, and Hubli. This was acquired in 2019 and has since then turned into a division of HCL Technologies. HCL Technologies also provides engineering services for semiconductor equipment companies.
SPP Semiconductor Limited
It claims to be the only assembly and test facility for semiconductor integrated circuits in India. The company offers package design, assembly and wafer sorting services for integrated device manufacturers and fabless semiconductor companies. The company is headquartered in Chennai and was acquired in 2014 by Singapore-based semiconductor packaging and design company Natronix.
MosChip
The company MosChip was established in 1999. The Hyderabad based company develops IPs for more than 30 different semiconductor designs and has developed over 30 different verification modules, all which could leverage third-party IPs for all its custom silicon solutions. It has an employee strength of around 1300 engineers and above across its offices located in Hyderabad, Bangalore, and Silicon Valley.
ChipLogic
ChipLogic, a company established in 2018, offers semiconductor intellectual property blocks designed for the custom silicon solution. The provided semiconductor integrates different aspects, like power management, memory storage, networking, and image and video processing. ChipLogic has offices in Bangalore as well as the U.K.
At this stage, India is growing its semiconductor manufacturing capabilities. These Indian semiconductor companies are just an example. An initiative from the Indian government towards the manufacturing of these products has invigorated efforts. A slew of such start-ups and companies has also ventured into the field to help solve the country’s problem.
