In order to bring about a joint Master’s Degree Programme (JMDP) on hydrology, environmental science, sustainable energy and SDGs; the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee signed a letter of intent with Samarkand State University (SamSU). In order to bring about a joint Master’s Degree Programme (JMDP) on hydrology, environmental science, sustainable energy and SDGs; the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee signed a letter of intent with Samarkand State University (SamSU). Here are few things you need to know about IIT Roorkee Joint Masters in Climate Sciences:

According to the press release, the initiative intends to tackle key worldwide challenges such as lack of water, changes in weather patterns and harm to the ecosystem while providing SamSU learners and instructors with an in-depth understanding of modeling and sustainability in managing water resources.

The Joint Master’s Degree Program (JMDP) will be established between the Department of Hydrology at IIT Roorkee and the Department of Hydrometeorology at SAMSU. It aims to tackle global challenges such as water scarcity, climate change, and environmental degradation. As per the official statement, this programme will provide students and faculty at SamSU with advanced skills in water resource management, modeling, and sustainability.

Previous Collaborator:

Earlier IIT Roorkee had signed agreements with Taiwan Universities for a Joint/Dual Master’s Degree Program. Under this agreement, the Dept of Electronic Communication & Engineering and the Dept of Physics (IIT Roorkee) will conduct M. Tech. programme in Semiconductor Technology with Taiwan Universities. The advantages of this type of study is quality education from best institutions in the subject field, in India and Taiwan and close experience and training with Semiconductor Industries partners in Taiwan. The students will get the opportunity to do coursework & research at Universities in Taiwan working, under joint guidance, on industry-relevant problems in Semiconductors.

1. Dual Master’s Degree Program – National Tsing Hua University (NTHU)

2. Joint Master’s Degree Program – National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU)

3. Dual Master’s Degree Program – National Taiwan Normal University

The various programs under this Taiwan Collaboration are:

  • M.Sc. in Applied Geology
  • M.Sc. in Chemistry
  • M.Sc. in Economics
  • M.Sc. in Mathematics
  • M.Sc. in Physics
  • M.Sc. in Biosciences and Bioengineering

About New Collaboration:

The Director of IIT Roorkee emphasized that this partnership would provide enduring answers to water and environmental problems, thereby enhancing the institution’s academic excellence theme. Consequently, this collaboration will also have a profoundly positive impact on the community, ultimately leading to improved quality of life. Moreover, the agreements demonstrate the seriousness with which these two organizations approach climate change, as evidenced by their plans to establish a hub for innovative research and learning. Additionally, this hub will facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration, thereby accelerating the discovery of sustainable solutions. Furthermore, this partnership will foster the development of novel ideas, subsequently driving meaningful change and paving the way for a more resilient future.

The significance of the partnership is broadening IIT Roorkee’s international presence and promoting cross-cultural academic exchanges. The SAMSU vice-rector is enthusiastic about the collaboration’s potential to advance global environmental sustainability and foster joint innovations. IIT Roorkee’s dean of academic affairs noted that this agreement will facilitate student and faculty exchanges, research initiatives, and knowledge-sharing.

The partnership sets a benchmark for Indo-Uzbek educational collaborations, significantly enhancing both institutions’ global standing. The IIT Roorkee-SAMSU partnership addresses global water challenges and climate change. Hence it paves the way for innovative initiatives benefiting future generations and strengthening India-Uzbekistan relations. The IIT Roorkee Joint Masters in Climate Sciences will equip students with future ready skills tackling the environmental issues.
