Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has announced that it will commence its Abu Dhabi Campus session for undergraduate students in September this year. Here is all you need to know about it:
When was it established?
The offshore campus was established in 2023. But it currently offers only postgraduate courses. From session 2024-25 it will be offering two new undergraduate (UG) courses on Computer Science Engineering and Energy Engineering.
Number of Entrants:
The two courses will admit a total of 60 students. This will include 20 students who have qualified for JEE (Advanced) 2024 and 40 picked through a new entrance test called the Combined Entrance Admission Test (CEAT). CEAT will fill 40 seats, with 20 allocated to UAE nationals and 20 to expatriates in the UAE (including Indian expatriates) and international students. This examination has become one crucial factor in obtaining admission to the Abu Dhabi Campus not just for UAE nationals but also for students residing planning to study engineering abroad.
IIT CEAT Examination:
The Entrance Examination uses pen and paper, and candidates must mark their responses on the OMR sheet provided. The entrance test will consist of three question papers of 90 minutes duration each on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Appearing for all the papers is compulsory. Various centers in the UAE will host the entrance test, and candidates will choose their preferred city. Please note that the CEAT examination will be held exclusively in the UAE and not at any center in India. Applicants have to pay a one-time non-refundable registration fee of AED 300 (~ USD 82) for CEAT 2024.
You can download the examination syllabus from the campus’s official website: www.abudhabi.iitd.ac.in.
Features of the IIT campus:
The Abu Dhabi campus is actively discussing with industry and partners in the UAE and the Gulf region, with research, innovation, and entrepreneurship activities expected to start soon. Sources indicate that plans are underway to establish a permanent campus for IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi. The temporary campus can accommodate approximately 70 students. The campus architecture blends contemporary design with traditional influences, creating a unique and inspiring atmosphere. The layout promotes collaboration, creativity, and a sense of community among students and faculty. The campus hosts research centers focused on Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence (integrating machine learning and data science across multiple disciplines), and Advanced Computing (encompassing computational fluid mechanics, computational solid mechanics, computational chemistry, materials modeling, reservoir modeling, climate modeling, and more).. Sustainable and clean energy, environment, and climate change, Healthcare technologies, including digital health.
If you’re considering studying engineering abroad, you can choose the IIT Delhi-Abu Dhabi campus. The annual course fee at the campus is AED 81,375, making it relatively affordable compared to fees in India. All the best!
