Heritage Institute of Technology signs MOU with IIT Guwahati for education and R&D collaboration

An exciting development took place on April 6th as the Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. This MOU serves to enhance the partnership between the two institutions, particularly in the areas of education and research and development. The Heritage Institute of Technology stands out as an autonomous private engineering college that has received high accreditation marks. It has earned a Grade ‘A’ rating from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), and its eligible programs have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation in the Tier-1 category. This partnership is sure to lead to exciting new developments in the field of engineering and technology.

Speaking on the MOU, the Principal of Heritage Institute, Prof. Basab Chaudhuri said, “This collaboration will of immense help to us in terms of giving an exposure to our students for internships at IIT Guwahati, jointly launching short term programmes in association with IIT Guwahati and more crucially receiving a support in R&D activities where our faculty members can jointly work for an holistic objective.” Dr. Sandip Chatterjee, Joint Registrar(Academic), Heritage Institute of Technology was also present during the momentous occasion.

“This MOU will bring significant benefits to both the institutions. It will also give an opportunity to the students of Heritage Institute of Technology for Summer Internship Programme and jointly we can start some short term courses which can add value to the existing curriculum,” said Prof. Parameswar K. Iyer, Director, IIT Guwahati.

The Heritage Institute of Technology in Kolkata has been fostering international partnerships to offer its students unique opportunities for growth and development. In the past, the institute has collaborated with the prestigious New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) to offer a summer research program. This program allowed students to travel to NJIT and engage in cutting-edge research in various niche areas of engineering sciences. Such international collaborations not only provide students with invaluable exposure to global trends and practices but also help to build a strong network of industry connections. The institute’s commitment to providing its students with such enriching experiences sets it apart as a leader in the field of engineering education in India.

“The National Education Policy (NEP) had made a sea change in the field of higher education system giving a stress on skill building courses and outcome based learning. The flexibility under the current NEP will bring a revolution in education which was much needed earlier. This MOU will become an integral on the ways we incorporate the salient features of NEP in the academic curriculum,” said Mr. P.K.Agarwal, CEO, Heritage Group of Institutions, Kolkata.

“It’s great news. My alma mater where I earned my B.Tech degree had signed an MOU with IIT Guwahati which will in turn pave way for many such collaborations in the future,” said Dr. Surjendu Maity, an alumnus of the Heritage Institute who had completed his M.Tech & Ph.D. in Chemical engineering from IIT Guwahati. Dr. Surjendu is also a recipient of Gandhian Young Innovation Award 2021 and is currently working as a Postdoctoral fellow at Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation.
