Improvement of Housing in India through Software Integration
There are many construction projects in India and there will be even more in the future. To produce more and better houses and buildings, it might be wiser to use precast concrete elements instead of cast-in-place concrete. StruSoft took the initiative to start a project and raise awareness in India about construction techniques and benefits of their software, IMPACT.
The building industry in India is facing major changes. There is an increasing need to build more houses. The country’s government is pushing a special programme for people to have affordable homes. However, it requires more than the efforts of the political leadership. There needs to be new knowledge in India in order to build better and more sustainable buildings, says Paul Rehn, President of StruSoft.
StruSoft is a Swedish innovative IT company that develops software for the building industry, including for designing precast concrete elements. Now it has started a project in India to transfer the Swedish engineering expertise and software knowledge to support the country’s development in the construction sector.
A disadvantage of the cast-in-place method is that there may be problems with logistics. It often takes a long time to transport the concrete to the construction site. This leads to loss of quality and weakened properties of the cast-in-place elements, which ultimately can have a negative impact to the durability of the houses. To remedy this situation, it might be much better to use precast concrete elements instead, says Paul.
There can be great advantages to go from cast-in-place concrete elements to industrially manufacturing them in the factory and then transporting them to the construction site. We want to offer a change in design and construction methods to build houses more efficiently, says Paul.
