Microsoft offering highest package & US jobs
Placement season has started at IITs, with Microsoft leading the pack with most alluring packages. A student from IIT Delhi bagged a rumored package of 1.4 crore, the highest for the day. The software giant picked up candidates from IIT Bombay (4-5 candidates), IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur (4 candidates each), IIT Guwahati (2), IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee (1 each) for its US office at Redmond.. This year, around 1700 students will take part in the placements, which is being held at IIT Bombay campus. More than 225 companies are expected to participate in Phase I.
Apart from Microsoft, Uber International, Rubrik (a cloud data management company) and Indeed (an employment related search engine) are other companies that offered US jobs. Uber picked a candidate from IIT Mubmai and IIT Chennai each, with the highest package offered being around a crore. In the scenario a candidate selected for a US job fails to get visa clearance, the candidate is likely to be absorbed in the company’s Indian office.
Companies like ITC, Cairn, Blackstone, Morgan Stanley, Proctor and Gamble, Millennium, ITC, Apple, NEC Japan, Qualcomm, Paypal and Deutsche Bank also participated in the first day of placement, which was conducted in two slots.
A source confirmed that IIT Roorkee has so far received 195 offers, four of them international, while IIT Madras received 93 offers in the first slot. IIT Kharagpur also fared well, with Apple picking up five of its candidates from the computer science and engineering department.
A source close to IIT Madras informed that the salary package offered so far is almost at par with what was offered last year. However, the the number of domestic as well as international offers is showing an uptick.
The number of startups is 48, up from 25 last year and the jobs most prominently are from the field of data analytics.
And, top international recruiters so far are Microsoft, Indeed, Uber International, and Rubrik, which is a first-time recruiter.
